He is a 12 year old child who had ADHD and dyslexia. Though those may seem like draw backs, they will help Percy survive. After a monster attack at one of the many, many boarding schools he gets kicked out of Percy is transferred to Camp Half-Blood. There he will find out what is happening to him, who his father is, and how to get his mother back. You are going to have to read it to find what happens next.
