Complex sentence

  • A complex sentence is an independent clause and a dependent clause together.


Independent clause

  • A independent clause is a sentence that stands alone. 


Dependent clause
-subordinating conjunction

  • A dependent clause is a sentence that needs more added to it with a subordinating conjunction in it. 

When to use a comma

  • Only when it starts with the word because or any other word like if, after, or before.

  • After we ran, we all got sweaty.
  • As soon as we got home, we had ice cream.
  • Since it was cold outside, we couldn't go outside.
3 complex sentences that do not use a comma
  • We all got sweaty after we ran.
  • We had ice cream when we got home.
  • We couldn't go outside because it was cold.
